Common Questions

Patient Questions About Anxiety and OCD Treatment.

  • What should I look for to find the right therapist?

The most important factors that determine your success in therapy are:

How much you trust your therapist.

    • If you don’t feel comfortable with them, it’s going to be hard to talk honestly about your fears and issues.

Your therapist’s approach, experience, and expertise.

    • In order to get better, you need a therapist who understands your needs and knows the latest treatments and research that can help you.

Some people choose a therapist and stay with them because of insurance even when it's not the right fit.

Staying with a therapist who is a poor fit for what you need will significantly impact your therapy process and results.

  • What is the fee for therapy?

Psychotherapy is an investment in better health and a better life.

I am a good fit for people who understand that any treatment, support, or improvement process involves investment and time.

My out-of-pocket fee is $180 per session.

We can meet weekly or every other week.

  • Do you take insurance?

If you are paying out of pocket:

Patients paying out-of-pocket are responsible for paying the full fee at the beginning of a session or consultation.

You will be given a detailed receipt (superbill) to submit for reimbursement.

Please check with your insurance company about your out-of-network mental health benefits.

If you have been referred through Alma or your EAP, Alma will handle all billing and insurance matters. Please contact Alma Customer Support directly if you have any questions.

  • How do I set up my first appointment?

I'm so glad you believe I might be a good fit for your needs.

Please follow these steps to set up your first appointments. This way, we ensure we're making the best use of everyone's time.

To set up your first appointment:

    • Email me your availability: drlevy@buckscountyanxietycenter.com
    • Schedule an appointment.
    • Return the credit card authorization form.
    • Your card will be charged the full session fee to hold your slot.
    • Return your intake paperwork at least 48 hours before your appointment. This way, I can prepare ahead of time and focus on you during your appointment.
    • If you do not return your paperwork at least 2 days before your appointment, your session will be rescheduled.
  • What is your cancellation policy?

Please cancel 24 hours before your appointment. Otherwise, you will be charged the full cost of the session.

The reason for this policy is that, if you provide less than 24 hours’ notice, I can't offer that slot to someone else.

Unlike doctors’ offices, therapists cannot double book a slot. The time is reserved for you.

Late cancellation and missed appointment fees are not reimbursed by insurance companies.

    Please note:

If you cancel twice with 24 hours' notice within a period of 3 sessions, you will lose your weekly slot.

I'll l offer you appointment times based on what's available at that time. You will also have to pre-pay for all your sessions moving forward.

  • What if I want/need a different therapist?

Each therapist has different strengths, experiences, and sub-specialties. Additionally, you may need a therapist who can see you in person.

If you do not feel like we are a good fit, please let me know.

I will let you know immediately if I think you would benefit from working with someone else.

Either way, we'll discuss next steps.

  • How long will treatment last?

The length of therapy depends on:

    • your symptoms
    • life situation
    • beliefs
    • values
    • expectations
    • how much support you have
    • how much work you’re willing to do

Most patients experience significant relief from their symptoms within 6-10 sessions.

Some people see me for a series of sessions to help them through a tough season.

However, most patients work with me for 6-12 months (weekly or every other week). This allows them to be get on going support while using new coping tools.

Many patients stay on for longer because they like having a trusted and private adviser who understands them.

Frequency of sessions will be based on your progress and needs.

  • Will I have to take medication?

Not necessarily. It varies on a case-by-case basis.

We will discuss your situation and develop a plan that makes sense.

    I do not prescribe medication.

When possible, I will refer you to a psychiatrist in the community.  If I don't have a suitable referral, we'll develop a plan to find a psychiatrist or psychiatric NP who can meet your needs.
